Well, after a very enjoyable and quite successful Cambridge Open Studios in the delightful setting of All Saints Church, “The Painted Church https://www.thepaintedchurch.co.uk/ I am filled with a enthusiasm for both the act of painting itself and communicating about it with those very many people who love it in whatsoever capacity.
So, the good news is I will be running a short workshop on how to identify colour, how to mix it and how to use it to create believable three dimensional form.
The workshop will take place on Saturday October 25th from 10.00am until 1.00pm and the venue will be St.John’s Church in Hills Road Cambridge CB2 8RN, a lovely big bright space with kitchen facilities attached and some parking available as well.
The price for the session is £40, but there is an early bird discounted price of just £30 if you sign up before September 21st. To book and to receive bank details for payment please contact me via this site or email me
I will be taking you through the fundamentals of colour, the three elements you must know about to use colour effectively, and introducing techniques for identifying colour and most importantly for mixing it quickly and efficiently. It will be fun and I hope very informative and everybody should leave with enhanced understanding and confidence and be able to say good bye to those huge frustrating piles of muddy paint we have all mixed far too often!
Absolute beginners are welcome, you will have the advantage of not having learned bad habits! Please bring the paints and brushes you have, one of the most important outcomes will be that I hope to make you understand that the tubes you start with are only building blocks to the colours we seek. Most colours in nature can be made by a variety of different “recipes”, how we achieve the right colour is not the important thing. I will provide the reference photos we will use and the panels we paint on.
The session is designed primarily for opaque media, ie oil or acrylic, if you are a watercolourist you are more then welcome, the theoretical side will be of as much use to you as anyone although obviously the practical side of colour mixing is very different and although not directly transferrable can be adapted.
I am sure this will be a very interesting and enjoyable morning so I do hope you can join us.

Hi David
